Monash University is regarded as a leader in geophysical
research at both national and international levels. This reputation
is due primarilly to a strong research group with diverse interests
including (but not limited to) crustal heat flow measurement and modelling,
electromagnetic methods and high definition ground penetrating radar.
A geophysical instrumentation development group provides equipment and
expertise to both the mineral and geotechnical industries. Techniques
for mineral exploration and geotechnical surveys are developed together
with new equipment and technologies, including high-resolution TEM and
GPR systems. Projects include downhole-logging techniques concentrating
on the earth’s electrical and magnetic response, and spectral analysis
of seismic records to investigate material properties. Field studies
include high precision potential field investigations over prospective
economic ore deposits.
